On-the-Spot Label Printing for Stock Verification with Inveck
Count It. Print It. Tag It. On the Spot.
A global auto-components manufacturer replaced handwritten stock tags with labels printed on the shop floor the moment an item is counted, using the Inveck app, a Bluetooth scanner and a portable label printer.

Who is the client?
The client manufactures components for leading automotive OEMs from multiple plants in India. Its warehouses and stores hold thousands of part numbers, from raw material and bought-out parts to non-movable spares, each tracked in the ERP against an internal part reference.
Regular cycle counts and half-yearly stock counts are mandatory. Every count must reconcile book stock to physical stock, explain each excess or shortage, and carry the store Incharge's sign-off.
Book a DemoChallenges that held them back
Counts were run on paper. One person counted, another wrote the figure on a tag and a count sheet, and a third keyed the sheets into Excel days later.
Handwritten tags no one trusted
Tags were smudged, illegible or missing the part number. Auditors could not tell at a glance whether a bin had already been counted.
Pre-printed tags that never matched
Tags printed in advance from the system list did not cover items found in unexpected locations or missing from the list.
Items spread across locations
The same part often sat in two or three bins. Partial counts were written on separate sheets and frequently added up wrong.
Slow, error-prone data entry
Every figure was written twice and typed once. Transcription errors created variances that did not exist on the floor.
Variances found too late
Excess and shortage only appeared after consolidation, by which time recounts meant reopening locations already closed.
Paper sign-off
Incharge approvals were signatures on printed sheets, hard to retrieve during audits and impossible to link to individual counts.
How Inveck solved it
Inveck put the whole count — and the tag — in the auditor's hand. Each auditor carries a phone or PDA running Inveck, a Bluetooth barcode scanner and a portable label printer. When an item is counted, a single Save and Print records the quantity and prints a label for that exact count, which is pasted on the stock immediately.
Book stock for each location is set up as a milestone and assigned to auditors. On the floor, the auditor pairs the scanner over Bluetooth, selects the printer make (Honeywell, Zebra, TSC or Shreyans) and label size (2″ × 2″ or 3″ × 2″) once in Settings, and downloads the milestone so counting continues offline. Training focused on the count-print-paste routine, and teams were productive the same day.
Save and Print
Quantity is recorded and a label is printed in one tap — no handwriting, no pre-printed stock of tags.
Scan to find
Items are located by scanning the existing barcode or searching by item code.
Multi-location counts
Add Location Count records the same item across bins; each shows as an Other Location entry.
Unlisted item capture
Items missing from the book list are added with Add Stock Item, then counted and labelled.
Custom capture fields
Location, remarks and configurable fields record damage, label mismatches and other conditions.
Offline counting
Milestone data is stored on the device, so stores with poor network are counted without interruption.
Live progress and filters
Completion %, updated vs pending lines, and filters for remarks, locations, photos and sign-offs.
Excess / Shortage review
Variances against book stock are listed per item before closure, for recount or escalation.
Digital Incharge sign-off
The Incharge signs on screen; every entry carries the user and timestamp.
How It Works on the Shop Floor
The label is printed from the count itself, so tag and system record can never disagree.

Printer-based verification flow · 9 steps
If the same item sits in another bin, the auditor adds a location count and prints a label there too; items missing from the list are added and labelled the same way.
The results
On-the-spot printing turned every count into a labelled, traceable record the moment it was made.
Counts finished 45% faster
Count, print and paste replaced writing tags, filling sheets and typing them up later.
No handwriting, no transcription errors
The figure on the label is the figure in the system, printed from the same entry.
No wasted pre-printed tags
Labels are printed only for what is actually found, including unlisted items and extra locations.
Counted bins are obvious
A printed label on the stock shows auditors and supervisors at a glance which locations are done.
Multi-location stock adds up
Quantities across bins roll up to one item, so split stock no longer creates false variances.
Variances resolved on count day
Review Pending and Review Excess/Short surface gaps while teams are still on the floor to recount.
Audit-ready sign-off
Each entry carries user and timestamp, and the Incharge signs digitally — a complete trail for internal and statutory audits.
Our auditors used to write tags by hand and fill sheets that took days to type up. Now they scan, count and print the label right there, and the count is in the system before it is on the shelf. Variances get sorted out on count day, and our Incharge signs off on the device. It has changed how we run every cycle count.
